FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
The standard recommendation is that you book a consultation 6-8 weeks prior to your travel date. This allows ample opportunity to allow for necessary vaccinations (which sometimes requires a series of vaccines a few weeks apart).
Even if you are travelling soon, it is still important to seek travel advice and most vaccinations can still be given.
We offer comprehensive travel advice which includea:
- individualised risk assessment based on your health history and travel plans
- personal safety and security issues
- food and drinking water safety
- malaria prophylaxis
- travel related first aid advice
- travel insurance considerations
- in flight safety
- environmental risks such as altitude sickness
Travel advice is not simply a matter of reading off a list!
You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire as part of your assessment. We will be interested in finding out:
- your medical history (including previous diagnoses and medications)
- previous vaccinations
- travel itinerary including accommodation details (even if plans are still tentative)
- intended activities (e.g. diving, climbing, contact with animals)
All our travel consultations are carried out on selected evenings between 530pm and 7pm. Generally this is a Wednesday evening.
All consultations occur at Maori Hill Clinic, 609 Highgate. Phone 464 0044
As you will appreciate, this is a specialised medical service that is customised to your specific requirements.
The consultation normally costs $130. Discounts may apply if there are multiple members of the travel party attending the same consultation (e.g. family members travelling together on the same itinerary).
The costs for any required vaccinations will be extra and will be confirmed at the end of the consultation. Vaccinations need to be paid for at time of ordering.
The more specific information you provide the better we are able to customise our service for you.
In some instances we can arrange blood tests to check for certain previous vaccinations (e.g. Hepatitis).
